Artist of the Week: MSTRKRFT

MSTRKRFT (read: MasterKraft) consists of Death from Above 1979 bassist Jesse F. Keeler and DFA1979 producer, Al-P. These guy's mix of rock, electronic beats, and a disco groove come together to create a sound that shouldn't be missed for fans of of the electronic sound.

MSTRKRFT started out remixing some indie rock tracks. (Which I admit I haven't heard yet) They went on to release a fully orginal CD, "The Looks". Their vocoded vocal tracks, and get-up-and-dance beats brings in a wide array of music fans.

Fans of the group Daft Punk, may also like their music. Some of their songs especially their first
single "Easy Love" have a Daft Punk feel to them. Luckily, these guys have their own sound too, so don't think you'll be listening to two Daft Punk wannabes.

I'm tellin ya; Listen to these guys. With their basslines, synth sounds, vocoder loops, and more, these guys won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Go support them in some way, k?

Cocaine: Now in Energy Drink Form

pics from google.com

Cocaine? Energy drink? It's true... sorta...

A couple of weeks ago a new energy drink hit major party locals around the US.

The makers of this drink are comparing it to "the real thing". Acorrding to them, they concocted an energy drink that gives you the same chemical reactions to the drug.

Taste-testers have had mixed feelings about the drink.

My brief opinion:

Honestly, do you have to base a drink off of a drug to get sales? No... you don't have to. The saddest thing is, is the fact that a lot of tools (sheep, followers, etc) will fall for it, just cause they "are drinking cocaine" They say that they are marketing towards "partygoers". Yet just the word Cocaine will intrigue a wide amount of people, including an audience younger than they say they are aiming for.

Hey, if it turns out to be a good energy drink, then cool. I guess I'll be seeing all my friends "doing Cocaine" before a game of ITG or something, lol.

It is just that their advertising/marketing campaign is slightly disturbing to me.

Jackie Chan Did Porn!?!?

from China Daily:

"Kung Fu film star Jackie Chan Monday admitted that he acted in a porn movie 31 years ago, responding to a report revealed by Hong Kong media, Information Times reported Tuesday.

"I had to do anything I could to make a living 31 years ago, but I don't think it's a big deal, even Marlon Brando used to be exposed in his movies," Chan said. "The porn movie at that time was more conservative than the current films," he said.

Hong Kong netizens tipped local media that Chan was in the porn movie "All in the Family" in 1975, with a porn movie star who was famous at that time.

The Hong Kong made movie, directed by Zhu Mu, was defined as a comedy. Dean Shek, Tien Chun, and Sammo Hung were also co-stars."

Heh, when I first read his name, I thought it was gonna be about him talking about how he wants to be recognized as an acting now, not just for his martial arts. (Which I wouldn't blame him, since he was a large background with working in the arts. ie. Acting in Chinese opera when young)

I was definitely surprised when reading this...
Oh well, he had to make money somehow, right?

Zune: Microsoft's iPod Killer?

It's seems that Microsoft has been pretty busy lately, building the "iPod killer", named Zune

I don't really know too much about the new mp3 player, but I'll list some things off the top of my head:

  • 30 GB HDD Space
  • 3-inch color screen
  • wifi enabled - for song sharing (songs last up to 3 plays or three days I think) and microsoft may make a way to buy songs directly with the Zune.
  • It's supposed to be released sometime later this year, probably during the holiday season, with other versions of the mp3 player coming out next year (think iPod nano/iPod shuffle)

Microsoft has not released too many facts on their no hardware, but there are a few sources of news out there.

One of them is: Engadget's Article on the Zune.
