Best Buy: Pay us to Upgrade Your PS3!

"In what can only be described as a new low, Best Buy has decided to take advantage of uneducated PS3 consumers. They are now in the business of selling firmware upgrades to their clients, which unless something changed, are free for anyone with a wifi connection and take little to no effort.

Here is a shot of what the Best Buy in Staten Island NYC is promoting:

Best-Buy-Firmware-Scam01-1024x768

In case it is unclear I will break it down for you. Best Buy has the audacity to charge $329.98 for a 120 gb PS3 Slim, which normally will cost you $299.99. So what are you paying an extra $30 for? A firmware upgrade! A free one that is as simple to do as turning your PS3 on.

Best Buy actually advertises it as “Eliminates Bugs and Glitches” and “Play All Blu-Ray Movies and Games.” This is beyond misleading to anyone who does not realize that is totally an unnecessary service.

What do you think? I can’t believe they are getting away with this, I guess the old saying is true… there is a sucker born every second and Best Buy is inspecting their wallets."

Is it sad that I'm not surprised? Best Buy already charges way too much for their computer "services". I'm not surprised that they took it a step further and charge for a simple task that can be done in 4 steps.

Even if you already own a PS3, according to Engadget, you can still pay $30 to get your PS3 "Upgraded".

What's next? Charge people for installing apps on their smartphones? To install game demos on our consoles? I'm sure they'll find some other way to take the money of the not-so computer literate.

Felix da Housecat's new album: His best album yet

Oh yeah....

If you ask me: "What have you been listening to lately?" I'd only have to tell you one thing:

Virgo Blaktro and the MovieDisco

I've been waiting for a sound like this for a looong time. It's like a New Disco type sound with a touch of funk in it. Add Felix's style into it, and you'll have an original sounding album that will take many by surprise.

Enough of my gibberish on his new album, here's a short excerpt from his myspace page, talking about the origins of the album:

"I said, it's going to be a sexy, black, electronic disco record and I'm gonna call it Virgo Blaktro & The Movie Disco. Why? 'Cos I'm a Virgo - August 25th - and back in the 70s they all used starsigns, and I recorded it at Movie Disco studios in Barcelona." Vowing to keep things simple, Felix limited his studio personnel to two: his Belgian producer, BC, and his attractive new vocalist, Zahna, an opera singer from Eastern Europe he met in Barcelona. "This is the first album I've recorded stress-free," he says. "This is the first album I've felt like an artist making it. Everything was flowing because it was just the three of us."

I've listened to the CD over and over and still can't get enough of it. I cannot wait until it finally drops on October 1-2 (worldwide)

I guess I'll end this off with a music vid of one of Felix's more famous hits, "Silver Screen Shower Scene"

(Yeah, I kinda wrote this in a rush to get new content on my blog. I'll be coming back with more stuff very soon)

Kanye West + Daft Punk = Stonger

Yes it's true, Kanye West has teamed with Daft Punk to create his song/music video "Stronger" West samples the song "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" from Daft Punk's sophomore album "Discovery". This new track will appear in his new album "Graduation, coming sometime time in September this year...

As for the video, Kanye goes for a "Japanimation" type style, in a futuristic world. UNLIKE another song/music video where a hip-hop artist has sampled Daft Punk (Busta Rhymes' "Touch it") Kanye West actually gives acknowledge to the French duo by having them in the video. (pretty cool move imo)

Check out the video. I've only watched it once, after catching a clip of the song on DC101 this morning. I immediately took the lyrics i heard and typed them in Google. (Google is your friend)

My take on it:

Video: Pretty cool: I'd definitely watch again, better than most the crap videos I see out now.

Song: Song is catchy at best, I really need to listen to it again (I had to blog this now, or would've been to busy to do it later) Let's just say the Daft Punk factor (them being them and their actual music) really helped out this project.

What more can I say? Daft Punk will now get more fans upon this song/video, and Kanye West wins by just having the expierence to team up with Daft Punk, haha. (biased am I?)

Two great talents coming from two different parts of the music spectrum is always a risk - a risk that should be taken more often for the benefit of the music world.

"Make Love not Warcraft"

Everyone's been telling me about this "Warcraft South Park episode".

I stopped watching South Park regularly around.... 3 seasons ago, and don't really watch tv that much anymore (except movies), so I didn't catch it.

BUT, since everyone is talking about it... I might as well download it and check it out.

During some searching of file hosting sites I found a nice 171 mb avi file of it, so now I can watch it in pretty good quality.

I guess you all want the link so here it is

A great explaination of Daft Punk's "Human After All"

After the first time I listened to Human After All, I was slightly dissappointed. I began to think "what the hell is this?" When I got over my initial response to the album, I listened to it again noticed that this cd is bigger than 12 tracks (I think) that were made in just 6 weeks to please the fans. There's a deeper message on this album that I think a lot of people may have missed...

I was sitting around at school, too lazy to make a post today, and I just happen to run into this review on Human After All... It's a great read on one person's opinion on why Daft Punk turned to this direction in there music after their popular album, Discovery.

If you agree with this review or not, I think this is a must-read for any Daft Punk fan...

Stylus' reivew on "Human After All"

Now I understand the Title of the album even more...

Artist of the Week: MSTRKRFT

MSTRKRFT (read: MasterKraft) consists of Death from Above 1979 bassist Jesse F. Keeler and DFA1979 producer, Al-P. These guy's mix of rock, electronic beats, and a disco groove come together to create a sound that shouldn't be missed for fans of of the electronic sound.

MSTRKRFT started out remixing some indie rock tracks. (Which I admit I haven't heard yet) They went on to release a fully orginal CD, "The Looks". Their vocoded vocal tracks, and get-up-and-dance beats brings in a wide array of music fans.

Fans of the group Daft Punk, may also like their music. Some of their songs especially their first
single "Easy Love" have a Daft Punk feel to them. Luckily, these guys have their own sound too, so don't think you'll be listening to two Daft Punk wannabes.

I'm tellin ya; Listen to these guys. With their basslines, synth sounds, vocoder loops, and more, these guys won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Go support them in some way, k?
